Rishi Sunak: Get back to Parliament and present an Emergency Budget

The NPC is backing the petition urging the Chancellor to do more for those struggling with the cost of living crisis.

The information from the website, reads as follows.

Nobody should be forced to choose between heating or eating.

But millions of families have been pushed to breaking point by spiralling bills and soaring inflation.

This is a living standards emergency and it requires urgent action. Rishi Sunak must come back to parliament and present an Emergency Budget. We need a proper package of economic support for families.

An Emergency Budget must: 1. Boost wages - by increasing the minimum wage to at least £10 an hour 2. Cut energy bills - with new grants paid for by a windfall tax on energy and oil company profits 3. Increase incomes – by boosting Universal Credit to cover rising bills and restoring the pensions triple lock this year

Why is this important?

Measures announced to tackle the cost of living crisis at last week’s Spring Statement are woefully inadequate.

A full-time worker on the minimum wage will see their pay fall by £200 a year – in real terms – if inflation hits 8% as predicted. And the TUC estimates that energy bills will rise ten times faster than wages this year.

Britain faces the worst living standards crisis in generations and millions of families are at breaking point. The government must act to bring down energy bills and boost pay, Universal Credit and pensions.
