Dispelling the myths

Each year, the 1st October marks International Day of Older Persons to both celebrate older people's contributions to society and highlight the challenges they face.

Millions of older people in the UK are not experiencing the retirement they deserve. Instead, a combination of societal shifts and government policy choices has deepened divisions, creating unnecessary barriers. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the older generation at fault, but rather the systems and decisions that shape their everyday lives. It is time to address these challenges and ensure that all of today’s and tomorrow’s pensioners can enjoy a fair, dignified and fulfilling retirement.

Currently, the biggest challenge facing older people is the loss of the winter fuel payment for the coming winter. The NPC would ask that you engage with your MPs over the coming weeks and beyond the budget over this and other issues affecting older people.

There are also so many mistruths about older people. Below we lay out some of the facts about the lives of older people.
